THABYAY DEPARTMENTS

Thabyay operates through a network of six interconnected departments. Click on the link below to access more information about each department.

Curriculum Department

The Curriculum Department creates and distributes suitable low cost, contextually relevant learning materials and provides teacher training to post high school education and training programs. These materials are designed to promote analytical thinking and independent learning skills, and prepare beneficiaries for higher education and a future role working for human development, peace and reconciliation in Myanmar. The department also delivers teaching training services and advice to education programs on appropriate curricula and materials relevant to their needs.

Experiential Learning Department

The Experiential Learning Department arranges internships, work placements and exchanges to assist Myanmar people to develop practical skills and build regional networks that enable them to work effectively for human development, peace and reconciliation. Recipients of ELD services include experienced staff of Myanmar community-based organizations and scholarship students.

Grants Management Department

Thabyay’s Grants Management Department supports programs initiated and managed by the alumni of scholarship programs by raising, distributing and monitoring small grants.

University Preparation Department

The University Preparation Department aims to help beneficiaries to acquire the academic skills, knowledge and qualifications to access and succeed in tertiary education, with a view to returning to their communities after graduation to work for positive social change. The department delivers these services though a combination of on-site and distance education and support programs.

Scholarships and Student Support Department

The Scholarships and Student Support Department raises funds for university scholarships, and administers scholarships on behalf of institutional donors, for study in Asia. This includes networking with universities in the region to facilitate access and arrange university fee waivers for scholarship beneficiaries.

The department also offers a range of student support services including the dissemination of information about university education to help beneficiaries to make informed decisions, and the provision of the necessary support for beneficiaries to apply, gain acceptance to and succeed at university.

In addition, the department works to build and maintain networks of scholarship alumni to promote coordinated efforts to work for human development, peace and reconciliation.

Volunteer Department

Thabyay’s Volunteer Department places volunteers with community-based development organizations to help their members upgrade their English language skills in order to access educational opportunities and resources, facilitate communication with donors and network with peer organizations in Southeast Asia.

The Volunteer Department also facilitates volunteer placements, internships and study trips for students and faculty of international partner universities to enable them to learn about and gain on the ground grassroots experience with regional issues. In addition to contributing to capacity development of local organizations the Volunteer Department also seeks to strengthen links between Thabyay and appropriate tertiary educational institutions with a view to facilitating access, fee waivers and fund raising for scholarships for beneficiaries.
