Good morning! The Alumni of Kant Kaw Education Center, in particular of the University Foundation Program, today is your day! Welcome back!
I am delighted to have this opportunity to say a few words about why we are trying to bring you back together to this conference. And, I will update you on the state of Kant Kaw Education Center and the development we have had over the past years. While I surely spend the bulk of my time on budgets and fundraising, on personnel and administrative matters, my commitment is to protect and enhance the core vision and mission of Kant Kaw and Thabyay Education Foundation. We remain committed to providing comprehensive educational and professional services in support of human development, peace and national reconciliation in Myanmar.
With that mission in mind, we have invited all of you, Kant Kaw alumni, to come together, meet and share you experiences, challenges and opportunities. We hope that you have the opportunity to communicate, network and forge a lifelong professional relationship.
You attended Kant Kaw only one year, but you become Kant Kaw alumni the rest of your life. Some of you went on to better known institutions to further your studies. Some of you are contributing to changes and development of your community. Some of you are making a difference in the lives of others by serving them in any possible way that you can. We are proud of you.
I want to remind you that you are a more fortunate generation compared to the one before. You now live in a very exciting time in the history of this country. You have more opportunities than ever to access international higher education. You have more technology available to you to take advantage of and be more creative, innovative and entrepreneurial in serving your fellow countrymen. You have more international friends now than before to work with, seek support from and build strategic partnerships with.
We want you to take advantage of all these, make the best use of your talents, and take the lead in initiatives that will bring about positive change to our country.
Our theme today is "be a change maker." But, changes cannot be induced by one person. It has to be compelled collectively by like-minded individuals, not only with strategy but also with synergy. Therefore, you are having, for the first time ever, Kant Kaw Alumni Conference today.
Some of you have left Kant Kaw for a while, but it is important to note that we continue to make progress to offer better-than-ever learning environment, a more context-appropriate education and timely services. We retooled the University Foundation Program and renamed it the Kant Kaw School of Community Leadership and Social Studies (CLASS). We have expanded our partnership with international organizations, schools and universities.
Over the past year we have undergone a major planning process to help us focus on the needs of communities we work with and the changing situation of the country. As a premier education center in the heart of the city (next to the University of Yangon), we continue to maintain the overall excellence of all our programs. Although we cannot do everything that we might want to, and we may at times be compelled to make choices, we are determined to give priorities to the needs of the marginalized communities in Myanmar.
Wherever you work or your profession might lead you to move, I urge you to remain in contact with Kant Kaw. You are always welcome to drop by and utilize resources that we have. We want you to be proud of Kant Kaw, as we are very proud of you. And, I am sure that, with all the achievements you have so far and will have in the future; you will think about your affiliation with us and make the Kant Kaw Education Center proud of you.
I thank you and wish you a successful conference.
