“Because I was trained at KKEC first, I did not have many challenges with the classroom culture and subjects I had to learn during my study in United States as a Young Southeast Asian Leadership fellow. I now have my own education project through which I aim to contribute back to my community.”
Taung Ra has an advice for the current and future students of KKEC: “Value your time in KKEC. Try to absorb as much knowledge as you can from your teacher, from Thabyay staff, and from other students. Make good use of all the resources available there – from the Scholarship and Student Support Department, Curriculum Development Department and the Experiential Learning Program.”

Taung Ra was a quiet student when she first joined the Kant Kaw Education Center in early 2014. Originally from Lashio, Shan State, she was eager to learn. "At first, she struggled a bit," said one of the teachers at KKEC, but "we knew from the start that she will excel." Right after completing her study in the University Preparation Program at KKEC, Taung Ra was selected to be part of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiatives, a program that "seeks to build the leadership capabilities of youth in the region, strengthen ties between the United States and Southeast Asia, and nurture an ASEAN community."
“Through the one-year of learning in an ethnically diverse but close-knit community at the Kant Kaw Education Center, I’ve gained the knowledge and skills necessary to propel myself forward. It gave me opportunities for further education. Also, my ability to network and skill to sustain it will help me a lot when I contribute back to the communities I came from.” | Through the one-year of learning in an ethnically diverse but close-knit community at KKEC, I have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to propel myself forward. |
